How ironic it is. You have a child that works hard, gets good grades and gets accepted into a good school. Between State and Federal Financial Aid and School Grants you come up short by about $10K for the year... The student, who is now a legal adult, with one year of good, established credit, working two jobs, cannot qualify for a Smart Option Student Loan without a cosigner. You are a single parent, have raised your child to be responsible, never relied on any state or financial aid, and managed to give them a decent life, have had stellar credit, but due to economic downturn, loss of jobs, etc., you are forced to file bankruptcy. You cannot cosign because you will be rejected. Many friends and family members have either filed bankruptcy or have severely blemished credit as well... while well meaning, they cannot help. You have no one to turn too. Who's getting punished ? YOUR CHILD IS NOW BEING DENIED AN EDUCATION THROUGH NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN. THIS IS WRONG ON SO MANY LEVELS. I am asking for help... anyone else in this situation ? How did you resolve it. Again, this is so wrong. Legislators, what are you doing out there? Someone please give these kids a break
